Nearest MRT: Tanjong Pagar Station

Cuisine: Italian

Nestled in a corner of 100AM mall in the Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood, Morettino Italian Café & Bistro is a great spot to relax and recharge after shopping. Here, the service is friendly, the food is honest, and the coffee is strong. You can’t go wrong with good Italian cheeses, and you see this in simple fare like the Cornetto panini. It is a delight to tuck into – generous shavings of cooked ham and smoked scamorza cheese encased in buttery layers of baked croissant. The Casanova does its part to charm as well, combining cream cheese and a light brie with fresh greens and sun-kissed tomatoes for that burst of juiciness. No meal here is complete without a coffee from the espresso bar — a double will keep you fit for shopping, or get a foamy cappuccino if you’re looking to linger for a while.

When we visited Morettino for dinner on a weekday, business was slow. Only two other tables were occupied. Another table was just having drinks. There was an Eatigo promotion as well as a one-for-one food promotion with OCBC cards. I suppose such promotions are to entice more people to dine at this cafe during weekdays.

Parma ham pizza and beef lasagne

We ordered one parma ham pizza and one beef lasagne to share. As you can tell from the picture, the food is not that appetising. The parma ham was scarce and the sprouts of lettuce were strewn haphazardly over the pizza. The dough was alright, slightly crispy and not too chewy.

As for the lasagne, it felt like it just came out of the microwave. It was warm but we could tell that the lasagne was not freshly made. Judging by the prices, I felt that this cafe is overrated and not worth paying such high prices. Even my friend who usually comes here for the coffee said that the coffee was average only. They come here because it is usually one of the emptier cafes in the area, so there is guarantee of seats.

After the lacklustre dinner, we headed over to Ginett for some drinks. This place has been one of our favourite spots to get a cheap bottle of wine for dine-in.

For Morettino cafe, maybe we did not order the right dishes. According to other reviews, these are the more popular dishes: Arancini, Bruschetta Platter, Italian Chopping Board, Grass Fed Beef Burger, Baked Pasta.

For me, this would be my first and last time dining here.
