Though I am not a full-time vegetarian, I do indulge in vegetarian cuisine at least twice a month, as my mum would cook a vegetarian meal on the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. For today’s review, we are going to visit Elemen at Millenia Walk.

According to the company, Elemen is a dining concept focused on a modern interpretation of natural and meatless cuisine. It is dedicated to fostering the well-being of our customers through our wholesome meatless recipes and use of natural ingredients. The Elemen restaurants offer a pleasant dining experience and our brand motto “Love Self, Love Earth” explains our focus of serving healthy and natural food, without compromising the sustainability of the environment.

Elemen has two outlets at Thomson Plaza and Millenia Walk. If your impression of vegetarian food is being fried and free of starch, you’re in for a surprise because at Elemen, they mix the flavours of East and West to create vegetarian dishes, including the use of generous servings of truffle oil.

Elemen offers an 8-course meal at $32.80++ for any day of the week and a 5-course meal at $26.80++ which is only available on weekdays for lunch or dinner (except public holidays). Since we wanted to try several dishes, it is more economical to go with the 8-course set menu as we were visiting the restaurant on a Sunday. Here are the dishes that we tried.

For starters, we had the rosemary breadsticks with raspberry yoghurt dip. The rosemary was fragrant and the dip was refreshing and went well with the bread. It would have been better if the bread was served warm and slightly crisp.

The next dish was the Elemen appetiser which was a fixed dish, consisting of cherry tomato, raw beansprouts and mushroom while the one below is the mushroom salad. Choice of salads also included tropical fruits salad which is like our local rojak, quinoa salad or avocado salad.

For the next group of salad, there is the spinach salad with sesame dressing, it reminds me of eating Japanese salad and I like the dressing with its fragrance.

For soup, you can choose the Wild mushroom cream soup with a dash of truffle oil. The mushrooms were fresh and the soup did not taste like it came out of a Campbell can thankfully. Other choices for soup include the 5 elements Chinese style soup, Tortilla soup or Double-boiled maca soup which has weight loss properties.

Before serving the mains, they served a shot of apple cider. It was non-alcoholic and quite sour, but apparently cider has some health properties which aid in digestion.

Next, it was time for the main course, made up of vegetables yet again. I ordered the Black truffle Porcini Pasta. The smell of truffle was powerful and since the mushrooms had no taste, the chef has to use cream and truffle oil to bring out the taste of this pasta dish. I liked the pasta for the first few mouthfuls, but afterwards it became too thick because of the sauce coated on the pasta and I could not bear with the smell. In the end I still finished my dish.

As for the other dish that my partner tried, it was the Braised Bai Ling mushroom with Ee Fu noodle. It is prepared in a Chinese style and the mushroom servings were generous. The dish was braised in soya sauce and something more palatable for those used to Chinese cuisine.

For drinks, I ordered the Iced coconut mint with butterfly pea flower. It looks really picture-worthy as the swirls of blue were poured at the top. The colours would have looked nicer if they added a layer of milk before. There was also a chunk of coconut at the bottom of the drink. For coffee lovers, do try the sea salt coffee which was given the thumbs up by my friend. In my opinion, the drink should have been served much earlier and not after our main course.

Last but not least, we had dessert to round off our lunch. Being a chocolate lover, I went with the Chocolate lave cake with vanilla ice cream. Disappointingly, the lava from the cake did not flow out, probably because the chocolate was not molten enough. However, I still liked the dessert and wished that the scoop of vanilla ice cream could have been bigger.

There is also snow chrysanthemum with grass jelly, chilled purple rice porridge with coconut ice cream as well as double-boiled lemongrass with peach gum for those who prefer Asian desserts.

Overall, I had a satisfied lunch at Elemen and was glad to have tried out the 8 course meal which allowed me to experience the full range of a vegetarian meal. If you have friends who are vegetarian, they would probably know about this place and had tried out the food. If you are still having a sweet tooth after this filling meal, you can grab a cup of bubble tea at Supertea which is just outside the Elemen restaurant.
