It was my first time at Paul thanks to the girlfriend who wanted to have dinner here. Being a lover of French cuisine, I have been eating at other French places such as La petite cuisine at Serene Centre or Saveur, but have not tried Paul yet. To be honest, I tried Paul in France, it was more like fast food because I tried their sandwich options. It was good though.

Back in Singapore, Paul opened its first outlet at Ngee Ann City. Paul offers some of the best French cuisine in Singapore and is known for serving a variety of bread, croissants and desserts that are suitable for casual dining and group gatherings. They also offer a wide array of dishes including beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian recipes, so there is something for everyone on the menu. Paul was founded in 1889 in France. It is their passion to serve fresh and quality products that will satisfy every palate.

The soup of the day was mushroom soup but we did not feel like having it.

The soft shell crab pasta was new on the menu and it is designed for the Singapore market. I enjoyed the angel hair pasta and the chilli crab sauce which was not too spicy. The crab was lightly battered and fried, so it did not have a very oily after taste.

Usually I would order duck confit when I visit a French restaurant but it was not on the menu anymore. The steak was pretty good too, one of the better ones I have tasted. Even though the girl ordered medium well, the steak was not overly done and it had a slight chewy, melt-in-your-mouth texture, which was compatible with the brown sauce. The fries were nothing much to rave about. The dish looks plain, perhaps it would have been better if they added some greens by the side.

We were saving our stomach space for desserts and wanted the salted caramel chocolate tart, but unfortunately it was sold out. So we went for the lemon meringue tart. The tart was crisp and slightly hard to bite, so we had to use the knife to cut it. The lemon curd was just nice, not too sour and zingy enough to go well with the meringue top.

Overall Paul serves authentic and delicious French food. However, the service is not so good because we were kept waiting for the salted caramel tart as no one got back to us after 15 minutes and we had to ask another time. The restaurant was not crowded when we visited but the staff were not frequent in walking around. For those who want to take an afternoon tea, Paul is also a great place to unwind as you can have the view of Orchard Road while sipping some tea and having desserts.
