[Food Review] Group Therapy

Cuisine: Western

Address: 30 East Coast Road. Katong V. Singapore 428751
Nearest MRT: NIL. It is accessible by several buses that go to Parkway Parade.

Group Therapy began as a collective events space housed within a restored shophouse along the gentrified Duxton Road. The space is deliberately tucked away on the 2nd Storey to allow groups to gather and seek respite in the heart of the CBD.

The company believes that the best form of nourishment is sought through inter-personal relationships and connections with people, where common values and ideals are forged. Through the comforts of our space, warm hospitality, good food and drink, Group Therapy would be the perfect setting and catalyst for such encounters – hence the name!

Me and my friends went to the Katong V outlet for lunch because we had the Entertainer one-for-one main course promotion. This chain of cafes has three outlets, namely at Duxton, Katong V and Katong Shopping Centre.

The cafe was dimly lit and had a brickwall counter which served as the cashier. Some armchairs were provided at the waiting area. The cafe had quite a few patrons considering that it was Friday lunchtime. With the comfortable sofas and familiar decor, they were trying to recreate the feeling of stepping into a friend’s living room.

oops I was taking picture of the condiments area.

With the Entertainer offer, we could order anything from the sandwiches, meats & mains, pastas, eggs & breakfasts. We ordered a Big Plate, Pulled Pork Foccacia, Truffled Ravioli and Macaroni & Cheese.

The Big Plate: it came with a choice of scrambled/ poached/ fried eggs, bacon, sausage, toast (brioche/ multigrain/ white) and mushrooms. It was a typical all day breakfast set which was hearty and suitable for those who are very hungry. The scrambled eggs were delicious because they had added cheese inside. The sausage was boiled lightly and not too salty.

For me, I had the Pulled Pork Focaccia, served with salad and sweet potato fries by the side. The marinade used for the pulled pork was not tasty enough. I had better tasting ones elsewhere. The focaccia was lightly toasted and I had it in between mouthfuls of pulled pork. The fries given were too much and I could not finish it in the end.

This is the Truffled Ravioli. It is one of the few vegetarian dishes available on the menu. There was a choice between cream or tomato sauce and my friend chose the former. The verdict? The cream sauce was too overpowering after a few mouthfuls and even though it seemed like a small plate, it was really filling. The ravioli slices were huge.

Last but not least, the Macaroni & Cheese. It is not vegetarian because it came with smoked ham, mushrooms and breadcrumbs. It was too much for the lady to finish it as well. It was delicious on the first few spoonfuls, but the taste became boring after the subsequent ones due to the richness of the cheese and sauce.

We did not order any coffee or smoothie to go with the meal. There was tap water provided at the side and we helped ourselves to it. Overall, Group Therapy is a chill place to hang out with friends and catch up over long conversations. It is also ideal for hosting parties or special events. Group Therapy also handles online orders and delivery. The food here was average and most likely I won’t come back again.
