Menya Sanji Kagoshima Ramen
Address: 1 Tras Link #01-14 Orchid Hotel, Singapore 078867
nearest MRT: Tanjong Pagar
So far, I have tried Tonkatsu King ramen, the pork-base and chicken-base soup at the two outlets around Tanjong Pagar (one beside Orchid Hotel and the other at 100am shopping mall). My friend said that Sanji is much better, so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of Orchid Hotel, facing Tanjong Pagar Road. I ordered the normal Sanji ramen with chashu. You can request to change the chashu to pork belly. There was no need to pay extra for the onsen egg because it is included in the normal ramen.
For the ladies, they should be glad to hear that there are ladies portion. There are several ladies sets which come with a smaller portion of ramen, a side dish and a drink. They can choose from minced meat rice or chicken karage among the side dishes, and a canned drink or green tea for the beverages.
My review on Sanji is that the soup is less salty and less oily compared to Tonkatsu King or Ippudo. The ramen noodles are springy and there is just enough ingredients to go with the noodles. The onsen egg was also done well, it was runny and not too hard. At $11.90 (before GST and service charge), I think the Sanji ramen is worth it. Service was prompt, we were served iced water by the Japanese waiter without asking and he took our orders quickly. However, they were slow in refilling the iced water since we were sitting outside the restaurant. They did not chase us after our meal, unlike at Tonkatsu King, so we had time to sit down and chit chat.
