It was a nice surprise to visit this Japanese bakery, located in Pearl’s Hill Terrace.

It was a bit hard to locate this bakery, we had actually wanted to go to the cafe but settled for this place instead. The wafts of aroma of freshly baked bread and pastry filled the shop. There is a small segment of the shop where you can sit on the bench to eat your pastries or sip on coffee. There are no proper chairs and tables. Most people would take away the pastry, or just have a quick bite at the place.

Don’t expect too much at this shop, whatever is baked on that day is available for sale. We wanted a burnt cheese cake but it was not available. We ordered a Mont Blanc and Choux a la creme (cream puff). Starting off with the Mont Blanc, it had a smooth creamy outside filling of chestnut puree. $14 for the Mont Blanc which is quite steep, but you can be assured of the good quality ingredients used. As for the choux a la creme, we love the fresh cream inside that was made using fresh Japanese eggs, which explained the price of $5 for this small little pastry. I also had an iced cold brew ($6) which was not too sour or bitter and had the right amount of caffeine to perk up my afternoon. Many people came here but turned away as it wasn’t the cafe they were looking for. Some took away the shokupan, which seemed to be a bestseller. They have the normal nama shokupan and a matcha shokupan.

I would drop by this quaint little bakery again if I am around the area.
