This place serves hearty Italian dishes in a relaxed restaurant with warm decor, plus sunset & city views.

Offering spectacular rooftop views of the city and a luxurious lounge, this award-winning Italian-American restaurant transforms into the perfect venue to take in the glow of the city at dusk.

Tuck into sharing portions of LAVO’s signature dishes such as the Charred Octopus and the famous LAVO Meatball. Be sure to leave space for their 20 Layer Chocolate Cake.

As night falls, sip handcrafted cocktails at the sprawling outdoor bar and terrace, all while taking in the twinkling city lights from 57 storeys above ground.

When we were seated, they served us complimentary focaccia bread with a tomato dip. We are both not fans of olives, so we didn’t touch it.

I ordered the linguini white clams ($43) after much consideration. I was looking for a seafood dish and did not want to eat meat again, which I’ve been consuming for the past few days. It comes with garlic, toasted breadcrumbs and pepperoncini. While the sauce was butter and nice, I could not taste much of the white wine in it. I enjoyed the chunky clams which are plump and chewy, bigger than the usual ones given at other Italian places.

Wife ordered the filet mignon ($80), medium done. We chose the house made steak sauce to pair with this dish.

For those who worry that eating steak would not make you feel full, you can add on the sides such as this French fries ($18). The price is definitely steep for a simple dish like fries. There are also other side dishes to choose from, which are known as trimmings on the menu.

Drinks at Lavo are expensive too, because you are paying for the view. Cocktails start from $25 and wines from $20. I ordered a True Gentleman ($25) which contains Remy VSOP, Chambord, Luxardo Maraschino. Wife had a glass of red wine – Montecampo ($21).

We took a walk around the outdoor area of Lavo. Since it is perched on 57 floors, it offers a breathtaking and eye-catching view of the Marina Bay area, which looks especially beautiful at night.

We were quite full after the meal, but my wife had arranged for a birthday cake in advance with the restaurant. This 20 layer chocolate cake ($28) is made up of Chocolate food cake and peanut butter mascarpone. Since it was my special occasion, they lighted a candle and brought it to the table. The staff can also lead in the birthday song, but they were shy so it wasn’t made into whole restaurant singing.
