Super Air Jet is a low-cost airline based in Jakarta, Indonesia, which provides a premium in-flight travel experience with high connectivity, reliability, and reasonably-priced transportation for modern generations. It was newly launched in 2021 and I was eager to try out this new low-cost airline in Indonesia. In late June, the airline’s website was launching flights to cities like Palembang, Pekanbaru, Medan Kualanamu, Pontianak, Padang, Lombok, Bali, and Banjarmasin.

For my recent flight to Lombok, I flew with Super Air Jet from Jakarta. Even though I could check in up to one hour before my domestic flight, I decided to arrive early in case there were any delays. I reached the airport at 5.30am for my 7.00am flight. Yes, you might be wondering why I book such an early flight, but it was one of the cheapest and also I had to factor in the time to travel from the airport in Lombok to the start point of my Rinjani trek.

Super Air Jet does not have specific checkin counters for your destination. Instead, you would go to any checkin counter to get your boarding pass. I queued for about 15 minutes before I made it to the counter.

Even though my ticket includes a 20kg checkin luggage, I decided to hand carry my backpack on board so that I can save time waiting when I land in Lombok airport.

As you can see, at Terminal 1A, there are many low-cost airlines with domestic destinations. While Bali Denpasar is the more popular destination with more than 3 flights on the board, there were also some lesser known areas in Indonesia.

After passing the security checks, there are no more shops or cafes. So if you wish to purchase some snack or food before your flight, do buy them before entering the security gates. I waited at the gate for about 20 minutes before the announcement for boarding was made.

I waited until most of the passengers had boarded before making my way to the gate. I had wanted to check out the airline lounge at Jakarta and possibly settle my breakfast, but there was none at Terminal 1.

Super Air Jet encourages its passengers to download the app which contains entertainment and music options. Since there is no IFE, passengers can download the content beforehand, to enjoy a seamless accessibility to the entertainment during the flight.

Looking out of the window, we could see Mount Rinjani in the background. It was a short flight of 2 hours. Even though there was a food trolley pushed down the aisle for people to purchase food, I did not bother as I was not hungry. The food was quite overpriced too.

We ended at Lombok International Airport at 09:53. The front and rear doors were opened, allowed for quicker disembarkation. For those who alighted from the rear door, they had to walk on the tarmac. There was an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur that landed around the same time.

Rinjani-Lombok UNESCO Global Geopark is situated on the island of Lombok in Southeast Asia. As part of the Lesser Sunda Islands or Kepulauan Nusa Tenggara, the island is located between Bali and the Lombok Strait to the west and Sumbawa and the Alas Strait to the east. So at the airport, Rinjani was seen everywhere on posters and advertisements.

Overall, it was a no-frills pleasant flight with Super Air Jet. The plane took off on time, the staff were courteous and there was certain elements that catered to millennials, such as the 20kg free checkin luggage and entertainment on its mobile application. The flight was smooth and the price affordable, so I hope to travel with them next time to explore more destinations in Indonesia.
