On our trip to Oman, we booked a redemption flight on Star Alliance, in business class. The first leg was on Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Bangkok, after which we connected to Thai Airways flight TG507 from Bangkok to Muscat.

To: Bangkok

Plane: Airbus A330-300

Check in at Changi Terminal 2 was speedy as we went to the business class dedicated counter. We received our air tickets and had the bags checked straight to Muscat (MCT). As we were biz class passengers, there was a priority tag labelled on our bags.

First time checking out Silverkris Lounge at T2
Two sections, one for business class passengers and the other for first class passengers.

With our boarding passes, we were able to access the Silverkris lounge which was my first time. Previously, I made use of Priority Pass to enter the other lounges at Changi Airport, but Silverkris is exclusively for Krisflyer elite class members and business/ first class passengers only. It was around 8am and the lounge was quite crowded due to the high volume of transit passengers.

Some of the local favourites served at the breakfast buffet spread include dim sum like har gao. I would say that the food here is much better than SATS, Ambassador Transit lounge or Dnata.

Breakfast at the lounge

I had a serving of fried noodles, mushroom omelette, chwee kueh and char siew bun, with hot chocolate. I did not take too much food because I was saving some stomach space for the food on board the plane.

Buffet table

I also liked the layout of the lounge as it provides personal space and charging sockets between two seats. The sofas are comfortable and there was even a waiter going around with some finger food, serving hot coffee and tea. It was an added touch which I did not see at other airport lounges around the world. There was an Indian couple with mobility issues seated near us, so this food tray concept benefited them as they did not have to walk all the way to the buffet table to get some food.

Boarding gate at Terminal 2 E20

Around 8.50am, we started to make our way to Gate E20.

Our plane

Our plane was waiting for us, a A330-300. Boarding had already commenced when we reached the gate. We cleared the security screening and went straight to board the plane. Instead of the usual economy class aerobridge, we boarded by turning left and were greeted by a friendly stewardess.

Food menu

Flight time from Singapore to Bangkok is 2 hours, with a distance of 880 miles traveled. The regional business class seats had a 2-2-2 configuration, with 20″ seat width, 172 deg recline. The seats are not totally flat due to the old design.

Menu for Singapore-Bangkok flight

I chose the Singapore fried carrot cake to try as it is recommended by the chef and this would be my first time having carrot cake on board. On the previous J class flight from Seoul to Singapore, we had satay a la Singapore style for a dinner service and the satay was so good that I can still remember it till today.

Drinks menu but it was too early for me to have alcoholic drinks.

She had the egg noodles with braised soya sauce flavoured chicken and vegetables. Since it was a short flight of around 2 hours, the crew did not serve it course by course, but instead put everything on one tray, including the fruits and the pineapple coconut mousse for dessert. The presentation of the dish could have been better as the noodles seem haphazardly arranged. In terms of taste, there was nothing much special than eating it from an aluminium tray in economy. Only the chicken serving given was more generous.

For mine, I had the carrot cake with prawns and sambal chilli. The chilli was done well and there was a generous portion of shrimps which I could not finish in the end. The carrot cake had enough taste and not too wet. As you can see, I was having a fusion breakfast, with croissant by the side. I ordered New Zealand white wine to pair with the meal.

Happy faces after we had finished the breakfast
in-flight entertainment

The entertainment screen was 15.4″ standard definition, so the images are not that sharp. The movie selection was comprehensive, with quite a few of the latest blockbuster movies available for watching.

I enjoyed the leg space. The trays also came in handy for us to put small items like our pouch and the passport. Button on the left side to open or close the trays. It is also important to check that we did not leave anything behind before disembarking from the plane. I did not use the cabin blanket as the air-conditioning was not so strong. Bose headphones were provided for us to use with the in-flight entertainment. I was looking forward to a biz class toiletries bag, but none was given out, probably as it was a short-haul flight.

SIN-BKK

Around 10.30am, we began our descent into BKK airport. Due to heavy air traffic, we only landed at 10.50am and slowly taxied to the gate. We disembarked from the aerobridge and headed to immigration as we had some errands to run. Moreover, we had a stopover time of three hours which was enough to hang around at the airport.

Fast track at BKK airport

Thanks to our J class boarding pass, we were able to clear Thai immigration using the fast track. It took around 5 minutes to get our passports stamped and we were out in the arrival hall. We bought Bake cheese tarts, sent some postcards and shopped at 7-eleven before going back to the transit area to enjoy the remaining of our transit time at the Thai Airways Royal Silk lounge. Review will be coming up next.
