Burlamacco restaurant

The Burlamacco is a carnival mask featuring the characteristic essence of famous town of Viareggio in Tuscany where one of the most famous Italian carnivals take place. This classic yet trendy restaurant is located in the Central Business District area, with a relaxed ambience suitable for dinner after work or a quick working lunch.

Interior of the restaurant

Throughout its divine atmosphere and delicious cuisine, the entire staff displays the ambience of a treasured tradition while maintaining a relaxed, positive and best fun way of serving the customers. When you visit this Italian restaurant in Singapore, you will be embraced by a friendly atmosphere enhanced by the variety and deliciousness of mouth watering meals at your tables. While waiting for our main course to be served, freshly baked focaccia bread was given to us, with the standard olive oil and vinegar dip.

We ordered the linguine – Boston Lobster Tail in Spicy “Arrabbiata” Sauce & Fresh Basil ($34), which was under the chef’s recommendations. The arrabbiata sauce gave the pasta a tinge of spiciness. The lobster tail meat was quite generous, with lots of garlic used in this dish. The linguine was not overcooked and we slurped up the sauce together with the chunky bits of lobster. The fresh basil also gave the dish a more nuanced flavour and also made it look a bit more colourful.

The other main course that we tried was the Capellini – Angel Hair Served with Crab Meat and Cooked in ‘Bisque’ Sauce ($30). The angel hair pasta was delicious as well, and it soaked up the bisque sauce. The crab meat portions were generous. The dish may not look so appealing with the sauce, but it tasted really good. Apparently the pasta is handmade by the Italian chef.

Tirasmisu

Lastly, to end off on a sweet note, we had tiramisu ($18) which is Italian cheese cake with lady finger biscuits soaked in expresso coffee. It was slightly disappointing because the coffee taste was not strong enough. The cocoa powder sprinkled on the top of the tiramisu was also too little.

Overall, this restaurant serves authentic Italian fare without a fuss. We enjoyed the main course but not the dessert. Besides the standard pasta dishes, the restaurant also offers fish, slow cooked beef, roasted lamb, spring chicken etc on their main course. The waitress checked on us regularly to see if we were enjoying the food. Lastly, thanks to AMEX love dining discount, we had a 50% off on the bill.

After our dinner, we took a walk around the area and came across this underpass, which was picture worthy. There are many more interesting bars and restaurants to try out in the Telok Ayer area, which we will slowly explore in the upcoming months.

Update December 2020:

We went back to Burlamacco again and sadly, 31 December is their last day of tie up with American Express Love Dining Partners. After that, they would not have the 50% promotion anymore. They have also stopped serving complimentary tap water, following the trend of high-end restaurants. Instead, water is charged at $3 or you can have the option to buy mineral or sparkling water at $9 per bottle.

The restaurant has also changed their style of tiramisu, with chopped pistachio nuts and berry sauce by the side.

This is their Christmas special for the month, available from 14 to 26 December 2020.
