Rumours Beach Club is the only beach club in Singapore to have three swimming pools, with different pockets of spaces such as the VIP Area, Cabana Area, Beachfront Area, Indoor Area, Outdoor Area and Alfresco Area which can be sectioned off to cater for events of all sizes. From private romantic dinners to full-fledged wild parties for party-goers.

The weather was perfect when we arrived on a Monday morning during the school holidays. The sun greeted us warmly, the coconut trees swayed in the breeze and the waves lapped excitedly along the shore.

There is no minimum spending at Rumours during weekdays, so we managed to book a cabana area for the 5 of us. Minimum spending of $250 is needed during weekends in order to get the cabanas. The beanbags require a spending of $50 but they do not seem as comfortable and do not offer much protection from the fierce rays of the sun.

Starting the morning right, we ordered a beer tower ($70) to share. It was indeed refreshing to sip on beer while soaking up the sun and lazing in the pool.

For starters, we had fried calamari rings ($17.80) which were lightly battered and came with a homemade chilli mayo. The calamari wasn’t overcooked thankfully.

The kids menu offers a variety of dishes to choose from, which definitely appeal to the kids. The kids hotdog ($10.80) comes with mini hotdog buns and hashbrowns in the shape of a cute smiley face. The rocket lettuce salad definitely does not appeal to the kids as it was left untouched.

Since Rumours originated from Bali, there is a strong Indonesian offering on their menu. Not to miss out is the Indonesian chicken satay ($19.80). The portion was slightly small, with only about 8 sticks of satay, some rice cakes and a peanut dipping sauce. Nevertheless, the marinade of the satay was really tasty, and the chicken meat did not have much fats to my liking. The satay was polished clean within the next few minutes.

The Jimbaran Bali BBQ starts service from 12pm. The Cumi bakar ($35.80) is a grilled whole squid of 500g, served with baby kaffir lime. The sauce of the squid was sweet and tangy, plus the chilli dip which is a standard for such grilled dishes. The squid was really fresh. If you want a seafood platter served with squid, lobster, snapper and prawns, then there is also an option for the signature seafood platter at $159.80.

Last but not least, we also ordered Indonesian fried rice ($18.80) which comes with fried marinated chicken, one piece of chicken satay, picked cucumber and served with garlic crackers. This is also another typical Indonesian dish, which is usually $3-5 served on the warung in Indonesia, but Rumours has done this dish well. The fried chicken was sprinkled with crispy bits and the chicken was grilled to perfection without it being overcooked.

Rumours has a boundary separating paid guests and the public guests at the beach. The kids had a whale of a time building sandcastles by the beach, using their spades and buckets brought from home. We were well-prepared for a fun outing at the beach. There were even other children who joined in the fun by pouring water and fetching pebbles from nearby areas. It was great to see the cooperation among the kids and how they enjoyed each other’s company.

This is the main swimming pool at Rumours. It is a medium-sized rectangular pool. With safe management measures, only 20 people can be at the pool at one time. There is a lifeguard on standby who will control the number of people entering the pool. Every 20 minutes, he would blow a whistle and those inside would have to come out and rejoin the queue. This is to ensure fairness and that maximum number of guests would be able to enjoy the pool facilities. The advantage of Rumours is that drinks are allowed in the pool, so it really gives the resort feel. Children are allowed into the pool only under adult supervision.
