Cuisine: Chinese/ dim sum
Address” Peach Garden @ Hotel Miramar: Level 3, Hotel Miramar, 401 Havelock Road
Nearest MRT: Chinatown station (Northeast / Downtown line)

Peach Garden @ Miramar has an ongoing promotion, with 50% off all dim sum items (Mon to Sat) and 30% off dim sum items on Sunday. Even though getting to Miramar Hotel is quite out of the way, it is still worth it to make the trip there to enjoy the promotion. You can either walk about 15 minutes from Chinatown station or take a bus from City Hall station.

This is the menu at Peach Garden Miramar Hotel, which is a limited list of items but contains the typical dim sum dishes. I wish there would be a wider variety, like the ala carte buffet at other outlets.

The first three dishes we ordered are the steamed salted egg yolk custard bun, steamed bean spring roll and steamed xiao long bao.

The xiao long bao had broth inside the little dumpling, and it was ingenious of the restaurant to put a small slice of carrot under the dumpling. This is to prevent it from sticking to the paper and when the client takes it up with chopsticks, the dumpling would not break so easily and leak all the broth.

The steamed siew mai with fish roe was fresh, with a shrimp and some tiny roe at the top. I also liked that the skin of the siew mai was not so yellow, which would be full of colouring and preservatives.

Besides the steamed dishes, there are also fried ones, such as the deep-fried prawn dumpling with salad cream.

Another prawn dish is the steamed fresh prawn dumpling. When you eat dim sum, you can’t really avoid prawns as it is one of the main ingredients. The dumpling goes well with the vinegar and ginger sauce provided.

The steamed salted egg yolk had custard oozing out of the bun when we ate it. The custard is piping hot, so beware not to scald your tongue when you bite into it.

Lastly, this is the signature baked “bo lo” bun with char siew and pineapple. I was mildly surprised to bite into a piece of pineapple, as it is usually excluded from the filling. I liked the crust of the bun which has a hint of sweetness. It has a charred appearance in a criss-cross design.

The dim sum variety is not a lot, and with repetitive ingredients such as char siew or prawn, we had nothing left to try. There were some dishes such as steamed chicken feet which we did not try. Overall, service at Peach Garden is excellent, they refilled our tea constantly. It is an ideal venue for wedding banquets too. Even with Covid restrictions and a less accessible venue, it still attracted many diners during the Saturday lunchtime crowd. The 50% promotion is a crowd pleaser and it is definitely worth it.
