We booked a place for 2 at White Ombre cafe as there was a 50% discount on the Eatigo application. Conveniently located near Lavender MRT station, it was only a 5 minutes walk away. Although the address stated that it is at Jalan Sultan which is misleading, the cafe is actually just outside of Hotel Boss (which we have done a staycation before), along the main road – Victoria Street.
In this cafe, they offer free wifi, free use of our card & board games, and a small collection of books & magazines to read whilst you enjoy their best selling cakes with an aromatic coffee or a soothing cup of floral tea! The space inside the cafe was quite small, it can only seat a total of 16 people. When we went there at 11am, we were the only ones in the cafe.
Their signature cake is the Earl grey strawberry shortcake, which we did not get to try as this was only available in the afternoon. Instead, we ordered two sets of The Full Works ($14.80), which is the all-day breakfast set.
As you can see, the set is served on a simple plastic ware. I had scrambled eggs which came with two sausages, bacon, baked beans and potato wedges. Most of the food are easily prepared in the kitchen either by microwave or simple frying. The scrambled eggs was the only thing that I enjoyed. The bacon lacked the crispy texture and the sausages were merely boiled so they had no taste. There was only one staff at that time so she was able to handle our order and also made the scrambled eggs on the spot. In terms of taste, the breakfast set was lacking in special flavours and tasted quite average. I could also prepare a similar meal at home at a fraction of the cost.
White Ombre cafe also offers customised cakes for special events and baking classes conducted by the founders.
After serving us the food, the staff just went back to texting on her phone. She was probably bored due to the lack of customers. And when we wanted iced water, she told us that it is chargeable and that we had to purchase a bottle of water. We were not feeling thirsty, so we did not order any drinks.
Overall, I would not go back to White Ombre again because their food at the cafe is nothing to rave about. Perhaps we could go back again just to sample their cakes instead. Just further down the road along Victoria Street, there are more cafes serving pretty much the same stuff. If there is a big group of friends, I would suggest going to other cafes because the space here at White Ombre makes one feel claustrophobic, especially if the cafe is packed.
