On my second day in Paris, we woke up at 6am to catch the sunrise at Trocadero, near the Eiffel Tower. Then we went to the weekend market to get some breakfast, but settled on some fresh strawberries in the end because they were quite cheap.
There was a belated national day celebration in paris, so all Singaporeans studying, working or living in France were invited to attend. I met my French classmates Krystal and Yong Qian here, as well as mingled with many other countrymen. Everyone was eyeing the food and the speech given by the Singapore ambassador to France was quite boring. It was always about figures and statistics, like how well Singapore is doing and bilateral relations between the two countries. The luncheon wasn’t that great, I was disappointed that they did not serve Singaporean food unlike previous years. I drank much champagne because it was free flow and Porto wine is good as well. This makes me look forward to going to Porto in Portugal soon. The desserts were delicious, the macarons were wiped out within 10 minutes that it was brought out.
After lunch, me and Val went to the chateau de Versailles. It is such an immense complex with many tourists. We only had time to cover the chateau and not the gardens. I’m very happy to use my student visa to gain free entry to the chateau, but for the gardens there’s an admission fee. The chateau and is very grand with many elaborately decorated rooms, the most famous one being the hall of mirrors. I can just imagine how king Louis lived a lavish lifestyle in the past and confined himself to the castle compound.
We met up with Krystal for dinner at a Korean restaurant. I finally satisfied my craving for kimchi and spicy food! Despite bringing Korean kimchi instant noodles, eating here is different because they have fresh kimchi. The owner is Korean and he employs Indian staff who spoke fluent Korean and French, which was very surprising. For 10€, we had a salad, main course and dessert which is very worth it. I had spicy squid and pork with rice.
Val went back after dinner while me and Krystal went for a house party. It was the birthday party of one of her sci po friends. I made many people there who were just so crazy partying and I enjoyed myself the whole night. We wanted to go to a nightclub after getting high, but the Korean girl was refused entry which was such a wet blanket, so we didn’t club in the end. Apparently, the bouncer felt that she was too drunk when she was not, it was just her walking unsteadily in her heels. So me and Krystal left after that since we were both quite tired. That’s how I spent 25h without sleep in paris. It was a crazy and fun filled day!
