For my birthday weekend, my girlfriend threw a surprise staycation for me at Wanderlust Hotel. The name of the hotel already sounds exciting and definitely suits my traveling style.
Housed in a 1920’s building in Little India, Wanderlust is an experimental boutique hotel showcasing a diverse range of fun themes. It offers free Wi-Fi and a mosaic tiled hot tub. The hot tub is situated in the middle of the room, just behind the wash basin. If you do not plan to take a bath here, then the tub would be ideal for a beer party. Just fill it with ice and throw in your cans or bottles of beer to have a fun night.
On the fourth floor of Wanderlust Hotel, there are Whimsical rooms which is like a loft design, with the bed on the mezzanine level. There are five varying themes, ‘Bling’ , ‘ASCII’, ‘Space’, ‘Tree’ and ‘Typewriter’. We were allocated the ‘Typewriter’ room and I was quite impressed with the overall design.
Wanderlust is a 10-minute walk from Bugis and Little India MRT stations. The hotel is a 25-minute drive from Singapore Changi International Airport. The location is really convenient. One can easily walk to famous eateries in the vicinity, such as Dim Sum delights, the roti prata stall beside the hotel, Swee Choon (about 15 minutes walk away) and even Jalan Besar food centre which offers a wide variety of food.
Origami, pop-art and space are just some of the themes featured in these unique rooms. iPod docks, laptop safes and flat-screen cable TVs are provided in each. There is also a good selection of free drinks in the mini bar, such as apple juice, orange juice, coke and mineral water.
Wanderlust Boutique Hotel has a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage and concierge services for the convenience of guests. Guests can also request for daily newspapers. Other facilities include a jacuzzi pool on the second floor. This mosaic-tiled pool is very small and does not offer much of view. You can see the common area of Bunc hostel which is facing this hotel. Since the hotel lobby is quite small, there are constant eyes and it may be hard to sneak guests up to your room. They questioned my friends when they tried to go up to take a look at the room, so in case you plan to throw a party at this hotel, take note of this limitation.
Guests can enjoy a French meal paired with some good wine in a welcoming, casual setting at Winederlust, the similar-sounding name used for the restaurant. The restaurant also houses a bar for an unwinding session over drinks. During the day, this restaurant serves as a breakfast place. We did not try the breakfast buffet here because firstly it was not included in the room price, secondly there was a never-ending list of dining options just around the hotel area.
Alternative hotel Wanderlust in Little India, draws madcap, curious voyagers to the old ethnic enclave. Made for guests with a sense of adventure, those who are willing to walk the unconventional path will be greeted with a radical hotel experience.
