Today is the second last day of our trip, it is saddening that we are going back so soon. How I wish I could stay here longer and not go back. I will definitely miss the cheap, full cream milky bubble tea, the night markets and the mountains here.
So today I went out alone as I wanted to visit leeco factory outlet, but I could not find the place and there was no nearest mrt, so I gave up the idea. It stated that it was in neihu district, so I took the neihu mrt line there and asked the station staff on how to take a bus there, but she said it was at another mrt station down the line. Moreover, it was raining quite heavily and I did not want to walk in the rain. In the end,I went to miramar shopping centre which is located at jian nan road, there is a distinct giant ferris wheel outside the shopping centre. This shopping centre has a main department store which occupies six levels, but there was nothing special that caught my attention. Situated nearby is carrefour hypermarket, out of couriosity I went there and found some cheap food items which were products of taiwan, so I think it would be ideal to give to my colleagues. I also bought the famous leekee sun biscuits from changan east road that eng siong recommended me. The shop was drifting with aromas of the buttery pastry when I stepped into it, and it was freshly baked so I bought 2 boxes of ten each for a total of NT560.
Next I took the metro to taipei city hall where uniqlo’s only outlet in taiwan was located and found some good deals for designer tshirts and a pair of bermudas. The store is relatively big, with a wide range of summer clothing for both men and women, there was a big crowd due to the ongoing sales, unlike the other neighbouring stores where the prices were steeper.
After getting my shopping fix, I took the mrt to Danshui, having to change at taipei main station and pushing through the crowd as it was peak hour. I was also carrying a lot of shopping bags. The red line brings me all the way to the final station of danshui. It is a town with a rich historical heritage, the town was the main point of contact in nothern Taiwan between the Chinese and foreign traders during its heyday as the island’s major port in the 19th century. Today it is a just a town with the old danshui district and a market selling many popular taiwanese edible snacks which serve as good souvenirs for tourists to bring back to their country. shee bought many packets of fishball crackers and boxes of mochi. The pink guava sold here is also very sweet and juicy. We cannot find any fresh pink guava back in singapore. We then chilled at starbucks which offered a view of the old port as we sipped coffee and rested our tired limbs.
For dinner, I had oyster mee sua from shilin night market. I alighted at jiantan station while the girls went back to the hotel first as there were too many shopping bags to carry around the night market. I could not find the mua chee or peanut ice cream popiah that Shee wanted, so I went back to the hotel empty handed except for a “da bing bao xiao bing” which is like a crispy pastry wrapped inside a popiah skin. Our last night here in taiwan ):
