Taiwan day 2

We woke up late today as we had a tiring day yesterday. By the time we set off from the hotel for breakfast, it was already 1030pm. We went to the dumpling shop for some delicious handmade noodles with dumpling soup. I tried the zhajiang mian, but it was not the korean version I expected. It was just noodles with fermented beancurd on top. We ordered another bowl of dumpling to share so that we had ingredients to go with our noodles.

After breakfast, we went to Sun Yet Sun memorial hall. From afar, the structure of the memorial hall looked magnificient with its curvature and the beautiful gardens which reminded me of the palace de versailles, Paris. However, it cannot be measure up to the latter which is much more beautiful and the gardens of versailles are better maintained. We saw the changing of the guards ceremony, I think that the way the taiwanese soldiers marched and did their gootdrill was quite different compared to what we do in singapore. I dislike the prc people who just shove and squeeze their way to the front to snap photos of the ceremony. Even when the security guard politely told a chinaman to step away from the boundary, he refused to go so and asked the security personnel to go away as he was blocking his view. Such ugly behaviour.

Taipei 101 was a stone’s throw away from the memorial. We took a short walk there and there was an exhibition for young designers at the world trade centre which attracted quite a crowd. There was nothing suitable at Taipei 101 as the shops there sell expensive high end goods and they charge an admission fee for going up the Taipei 101. Hence we just lingered around there and had lunch whole waiting for the rain to stop. We also visited the Taipei 101 souvenir shop which sells souvenirs at exhorbitant prices.

In the afternoon, we decided to head to Wufenpu shopping district which is conveniently located at houshanpi mrt station. It is a big area selling mostly ladies fashion imported from japan, hong kong, korea. I followed the two girls as they fluttered from store to store. We literally shopped till we dropped as there were too many shops to explore and we were totally exhausted by evening time. I managed to buy two shirts, one checkered and the other with a splashed paint design. With the same amount of money, the girls could have bought 10 pieces of clothing. This shows the price difference in guy clothes and girl clothes.

After a tiring afternoon of shopping, all of us were dead tired. We walked to rao he night market and the first thing that greeted us was the pepper pies. There was a long queue and wanted to blend in with the locals, we queued up as well. The pie is really awesome as it was baked in an urn, filled with black pepper minced pork and loads of spring onion. Again we tried lots of good food at the night market. The food that we ate: pepper pie, fried meat dumplings, matcha waffle, oyster omelette, chicken dog, fried mochi, fried meat pau, mango ice.

ok time to sleep, need to wake up early tomorrow.
