I met my younger self for coffee on a quiet afternoon. He had a backpack slung over his chair, eyes bright with the thrill of endless possibilities. I remembered that feeling well.

“So,” he asked, stirring his coffee, “where have we been?”

I hesitated. “Not as far as you’d think.”

His face fell. “But we wanted to see everything.”

“We did, for a while.” I smiled. “Mountains, oceans, strange cities at midnight. But then, we found something else—love, a home, a life that felt… steady.”

He frowned. “Did we give up?”

“No,” I said. “We just chose a different adventure.”

He studied me, then nodded slowly. “Is it a good one?”

I met his gaze. “Better than we ever imagined.”

A dream to fly every year: flying on a Singapore Airlines A380 in business class. Award winning, endlessly touted for its excellence, and striving to always improve, Singapore Airlines has quite the reputation. So I was elated to book a redemption flight on SQ from Singapore to Frankfurt to Tunis just two months before my trip, the second leg being a codeshare with Lufthansa, so check out this video to see how it’s like! Many people said you need to book 355 days in advance to secure business class redemption tickets, but I guess I was lucky. I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect flight, as there was a faulty toilet and also wifi that wasn’t working, but nevertheless the overall experience was great because we got to catch some sleep on board the plane.
Paid: 82,000 miles + $200 in taxes per person. ✈️

There are two approaches to the Monkey Park: one requires a 25-40 minute walk through the forest, while the other requires a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest parking lot.

The first approach involves taking a bus to the Snow Monkey Park bus stop from Yudanaka Station (about 10 minutes, 310 yen, 1-2 buses per hour), Shibu Onsen (about 5 minutes, 190 yen, 1-2 buses per hour) or Nagano Station (40 minutes, 1800 yen, 4-10 buses per day). From the Snow Monkey Park bus stop, it is a 30-40 minute walk to the monkey park. The walking trail is passable around the year, but sturdy footwear is recommended especially in winter.

The alternative approach involves a 10-15 minute walk from a paid parking lot just to the west of the monkey park. However the narrow road from Shibu Onsen to the parking lot is not served by public transportation and gets closed in winter. Although rather time-consuming, it would be possible to walk to the parking lot from Shibu Onsen in about 45 minutes without snow.

It was founded in the 7th century and stores the first Buddhist statue ever to be brought into Japan when Buddhism was first introduced in the 6th century. The original statue is hidden while a copy of it is shown to the public every six years for a few weeks. The next opportunity to see the statue is in 2027. You can’t take pictures of the interior but walking through the halls and also the dark underground passage in search of the key to paradise was definitely a core memory.

She overcame childhood trauma, prejudice and mental illness to become a sensation late in life, making her an inspirational artist for all.
