Step into a lush, forest-themed restaurant and enjoy a picturesque view over the Masters Course while you savour an arena of authentic, multi-ethnic cuisine served from five show kitchens, available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The all-day dining restaurant at Greenhouse takes you on a journey, featuring different food cultures, such as mouth-watering Royal Thai delicacies, Japanese cuisine, traditional Indian Tandoor, Mediterranean dishes from the pizza-oven, Chinese specialties, a sumptuous seafood spread and charcuterie.
The five kitchens offer a range of cuisines such as Tandoor Kitchen (Indian), Virgin Olive Cuisine (Mediterranean fare), Lanna & Pak Tai Cuisine (Thai), Yue cuisine (Cantonese) and Cuts & Catch (Western). With such a wide spread of mouth-watering dishes available for selection, diners are indeed spoilt for choice.
I decided to go with the Chef’s special of the day ($26) which was curry with chicken and served with a plate of steamed rice. On the menu, it did not specify the colour of the curry so I was mildly surprised when it turned out to be green curry. There were peas and also slices of brinjal used in the curry to bring out the flavours. The aromatic smell of the coconut matched with the curry, and it was not too thick such that you would get saturated after a few bites.
Next, there was the Phad Thai gai, which is stir fried rice noodles with chicken, tossed in tamarind sauce. The sauce was slightly spicy but lovely. The noodles were springy with every bite and the patterned egg at the top makes this dish stand out from your typical Maggi goreng pattaya that you would order at the coffee shop. This is one of the best Phad thai we have tried before and it is worth the hefty price tag of $25.
We also had a Tom Yum Goong ($24) to share, which is a typical Tom yum soup. The soup contains huge river prawns, a total of 5 of them. For those who love some spice, this sum was refreshing on a cold rainy day. The sour and spicy taste of this broth really complemented each other.
Lastly, for desserts, we had the Durian panna cotta ($12) as recommended by some friends. Panna cotta is an Italian dish, but durian was added and infused into the dessert with an Asian twist. The bergamot and green apple gel added additonal flavours to overcome the strong smell of the durian. The panna cotta custard was slightly hard, and I wished they could be more generous with the durian pulp. We enjoyed this fusion dessert.
Laguna Golf resort is a popular place for golfers and you can even arrange to hold your wedding here. Greenhouse has a beautiful interior and makes me feel like I am dining within a real one. The full glass windows offers ample sunlight into the restaurant during the day, while at night it provides some view over the golf course. Other than its slightly inaccessible venue, the hotel offers a unique architecture and design that makes it attractive. Do check out Greenhouse if you are staying at the hotel or looking for some authentic, high-class Thai food around the east. While the food prices a slightly steep than your normal Thai food hangouts, the portion and taste of the food more than make up for it.
It had been a pleasant dining experience, except for the staff who were a bit slow on the day that we visited. They could have separated the staff who does the check-in and another one to show us to our table, instead of relying on the same person, which then slows down the check-in process.
