Miznon is an international fine casual restaurant that offers a new take on Israeli street food. Helmed by one of the leading figures in the Israeli culinary scene, highly acclaimed Israeli “MasterChef”, chef Eyal Shani, aims to impart a sense of magic. As you can see on the writing on the wall, Miznon has other branches in New York, Tel Aviv and Paris, before finally deciding to open their first outlet in Asia – Singapore.

Miznon strives to use fresh ingredients in its cuisine, as seen from these fresh vegetables. The chef has developed a unique culinary language in the dishes in Miznon, based on Mediterranean products: olive oil, fish, tahini, fresh seasonal vegetables and the tomato.

For appetisers, the waitress served us pita bread with some cream cheese dip on the side. It also comes with two pieces of green chilli for the adventurous. I prefer to eat the bread without spice, so I did not try the chilli.

The Jerusalem Mezze ($29) consists of Falafel patties, fresh veggies, maggie tomatoes, olives, tahini, baba ganoush, chilli, eggs and crispy pita. This dish is a representation of all things Mediterranean. While it is considered pricey as this dish does not have meat, but for the wide variety of dishes, it makes a good taster portion and an introduction to Middle Eastern food.

For me, I ordered the Pita Moussaka ($21). A taste of heaven—the Moussaka is a Greek-inspired Pita which is a great mix of lamb ragout and roasted eggplants, made layer by layer like a cake, topped with bechamel sauce and cooked till golden. This sounds like a great feast and for those office workers who are in a hurry, this makes a quick bite as it is easy to grab and go. However, spending such amounts on a pita sandwich would not be sustainable in the future.

There are also other dishes to choose from. Made for the health conscious, the Falafel Burger ($14) is a wonderful combination of tomato steak, accompanied by sour cream, chilli, onion and pickles. For meat lovers, the Abu Kebab ($24) is a tasty lamb option that is cooked well and served with grilled tomato, onion, tahini, salsa and chilli. Other interesting and yummy dishes include the Folded Cheeseburger ($22), Minute Steak, and seared Chicken Liver. ($18)

Overall, being the only Israeli restaurant in Singapore, Miznon has indeed gathered some positive vibes in the community. Do drop by for some good ole’ middle eastern fare that will add a new dining experience to your list. We’re certain it’s hard to resist the strong flavours and hearty menu items that await.
