Skyline views and city convenience
Take in city center views from the downtown Bangkok hotel. Doubletree Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit is a 10-minute walk from Nana Plaza and Central Embassy, with multiple BTS stations nearby. The fitness center is open all day, and there is also an outdoor pool. Enjoy local specialties and international fare at their all-day restaurant, and a warm cookie upon arrival.
The check-in counters were manned even though we arrived close to 23:00. There was a one-hour long queue at immigration, before we managed to get our shuttle ride to the hotel.
Despite having done an online check in and choosing the 15th floor for my room, I was surprised to see that our room had changed to the 10th floor upon check-in at the counter. It was too late and they said that the hotel was quite full.
After putting down our belongings, we headed out to find some supper. In the end, we settled with cup noodles and chocolate milk, in the comfort of our hotel room. The room was facing the highway, but it was a distance away so it wasn’t noisy. There were also other skyscrapers around the area. Despite being late at night, we called to ask for some toiletries such as toothbrush and they delivered them quite quickly.
For breakfast the next day, we were treated to a spread of delicious food. I liked how the waitress placed a “Gold Honours” card on our desk to serve as a mark while we went to get our food. When we came back, we were shocked to see that a guy (of Indian nationality) had conveniently took one of our chairs away so that he could join a big group of his friends. We were annoyed and the staff grabbed another chair for us. In the end, we shifted to another table to be seated away from that rowdy group.
Anyway, we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, especially the noodle station. The omelette station could have been better in the way the eggs were cooked. There were also some local Thai and Chinese dishes. I liked the welcome drink of butterfly blue pea flower, which was a nice shade of violet. This is a popular welcome drink, and is also served on Thai Airways Business Class.
Breakfast exceeded our expectations because aside from the American and continental food, there was also an Asian section. There was fried rice, dim sum, noodle station etc. We were glad to be able to choose from 6 different types of noodle for our soup. In the past when we visited Bangkok, we usually stayed at budget hotels where breakfast was not included, so we would go out to look for street food. For this weekend, our hotels all came with breakfast so we could enjoy dining in air-conditioned comfort.
The rooms are spacious, comes equipped with WiFi, 43-inch TV, minibar and work desk. We had booked a stylish guest room with one king bed. Other amenities include an in-room safe and minibar. Unfortunately, there was no bathtub, unless you book the Suites. The rain shower in the room was quite relaxing already.
Conrad was our next hotel, as I wanted to experience different Hilton brand hotels during my stay. From our room at Doubletree Hilton Ploenchit, we could actually spot our next hotel. We stayed the first two nights here in Ploenchit, before moving over. Room service was not done even though we had requested for housekeeping by placing the sign outside our door. Perhaps it was because we left the room quite late, around 1.00pm so the housekeeping duty for the day was over.
Anyway, it was still a pleasant stay at Doubletree Hilton Ploenchit. Even when we arrived late at night, we were still greeted with friendly reception staff and their signature chocolate chip cookie. The area around Ploenchit is very convenient, you can also get around the city area by public bus, taxi or Grab Car.
