Who would have thought of Birds of Paradise as being a gelato boutique? When my friends first mentioned about the name, I thought it was the name of a pet shop.

Located along East Coast Road, just beside the former Red House confectionery, Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique is a delightful ice cream shop. It gained popularity on social media for its photogenic interior and yummy ice cream.

All the gelato flavours were made with natural ingredients, without the overuse of colouring. I had a chocolate mint and vanilla fig swirl double scoop. When I ordered the chocolate mint flavour, I was expecting a green scoop of ice cream which is commonly seen at other places, but it came in a white ball. The mint taste was natural and the chocolate chunks added some crunch to the ice cream. The vanilla fig swirl was a tad sweet for my liking, but the vanilla taste is classic and could not go wrong.

My friend had the pandan and hazelnut flavours. The pandan flavour was not artificially coloured as well, but it had hints of pandan flavour as you savour the ice cream. The hazelnut had a creamy taste with some chunks of nuts inside. A single scoop costs $4.70 while a double scoop costs $7.70.

Both of us has the ice cream in a Thyme Cone which came at a top-up of S$1. The Thyme Cone is made from waffle batter with infusions of thyme and all cones are baked freshly everyday.

Check out Birds of Paradise for the refreshing ice cream flavours and fulfil your sweet tooth cravings in a botanical garden setting!
