Binomio is a Spanish restaurant with both a casual tapas bar and fine-dining, both serving up authentic Spanish cuisine.
We came here to have some tapas after having some not-so-filling sushi handrolls over at Rappu Sushi.
A binomial is composed of two parts that form a single one. With that, Binomio Spanish Restaurante, is the combination of two vital concepts in the Spanish cuisine: Tapas and Restaurant Quality food inspired by the traditional Spanish taste is served. One can experience an elegant and warm service that is sure to leave unforgettable personal memories.
At Binomio, the head chef takes classic Mediterranean dishes and adds the skills and techniques he’s learnt from the masters. Binomio’s focus on traditional Spanish cuisine allows Gonzalo to do what he cherishes most – putting his Spanish identity on a plate.
Craving for some Spanish food, we ordered the fried potato cubes with brava sauce (patatas bravas $14), Atlantic octopus (pulpo a la gallega $24) and grilled foie gras with scallops (higado de pato $24).
My friend found the potatoes to be disappointing because the sauce was too overwhelming while the potatoes were not crisp enough. I also preferred the sauce to be thinner or at least gently coated over the potato cubes.
As for the octopus slices, it was really fresh, sprinkled with paprika and again we had potatoes in this dish. The use of carbohydrates in the tapas dishes helps one feel full faster.
Lastly, the foie gras and scallops were delicious too. Paired with a sherry vinegar sauce and chestnut puree at the side, this dish has a perfect combination of the greasy foie gras along with the light taste of the scallops. The chef has introduced some interesting twists to the tapas dishes.
Besides the tapas that we had ordered, we also chose a bottle of wine to pair with the food. The restaurant has an extensive carefully selected range of Spanish wines are offered at reasonable prices as well as a Sherry list, Sangria and cocktails.
Binomio has a really interesting beer dispenser as seen in the picture below. You can get your typical beers such as Estrella Galicia here.
It was a Wednesday night and by the time we left the restaurant, most of the shops around the area had closed. Binomio had also promptly collected our wine glasses by 10.25pm due to the current government restrictions. From sake pairing to Spanish wine, we definitely had a good night’s out while celebrating our friend’s birthday at the same time. As we all had to work the next day, we could not hang out too late.
The barrel outside the restaurant used to be a standing bar for people to get some drinks, but today it was just used as a stand and for people to measure their temperature at the machine propped up beside it.
If you are around Tanjong Pagar area and looking to sample Spanish food or just a place to drink, Binomio is the place to be.
