Stella Seaside Lounge is a casual restaurant along Changi Beach overlooking the coastline serving burgers, grills and cocktails. It is is the perfect getaway spot if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. There were coconut trees, dim light bulbs, outdoor seating and a partially obstructed sea view, which gave visitors here an impression of being in Bali. Since Singapore is a small island surrounded by the sea, we really enjoy our seaside dining areas with a view. However, despite being a gloomy day, it was very humid and the outdoor seating can be quite unbearable.
For starters, we had the Triple Mushroom Soup ($8). With the truffle oil, it made it fragrant and you can also taste bits of the three types of mushrooms. It was rich and creamy, but not too thick overall.
The Smashed Beef burger ($24) was great because it comes with double beef patties, with homemade sauce, onions, cheddar cheese and served with fries by the side. The only complaint is that the fries look so miserable. If they could have sprinkled some truffle oil and grated cheese, it would have made it more appealing.
The Beer Battered Fish on Chips ($18) was a disappointment. Using tangy beer battered humpty doo barramundi slices, it was served with fries and mayo. The children did not enjoy it because of the batter which was too much. The fish used was not very fresh either.
For the seafood lovers, do order the Seasonal Squid ($22). The squid is pan seared and comes with homemade spicy dip. We enjoyed the delicious squid and even without the dip, it was tasty on its own. This reminds me of the grilled squid at Rumours Beach Club, but the taste is slightly different.
Grilled Veggie Platter ($16) is made of grilled seasonable vegetables and served with chimichurri. It was coated with a generous serving of olive oil. The vegetables included bell pepper, chilli, onion, leek, mushrooms, pumpkin. It was a wholesome dish and the simple olive oil and herbs used made it so tasty.
For red meat lovers, the Whole Lamb Rack ($68) is a must-try. The 450g of grilled baby lamb rack was good for sharing, as there was quite a lot of ribs to pass around. it is served on a bed of mesclun salad with balsamic dressing. The lamb was slightly rare in the middle, so not everyone was comfortable eating it.
The Butter Garlic Prawns ($22) were cooked in a garlic and butter broth and served with garlic bread. We wished there was more garlic bread to soak up the goodness of the broth. The prawns were deshelled, with their heads and tails left on, so it was quite easy to eat them.
Seafood Linguine ($18) comes with prawns, clams, squid and topped with crispy herbed bread crumbs. It is cooked Aglio olio style, and you can also request for extra chilli. The servings of seafood was generous and quite fresh.
Similar to the prawns dish, this is the White Wine Mussels ($19). The 500g of mussels were cooked in white wine, garlic, butter and shallots. The broth was nice and for fans of vongole, the broth of the mussels really tasted like the one used to cook the vongole pasta.
Finally, it was time for desserts. The kids all enjoyed the scoop of ice cream. This is the Tres Leches Cake ($12). It is made of 3 milk soaked sponge cake topped with whipped cream, fruity pebbles and a scoop of blueberry ice cream. The review from the kids is that the cake was not nice, only the ice cream was appealing.
The other dessert worth ordering is the XL Stella Chocolate Molten ($32), which is perfect for 2-3 people to share, or even more. At this price, it would be more worth to order a main course instead. We all enjoyed the two scoops of ice cream – Belgian chocolate and vanilla bean. The molten chocolate cake oozed out as it was freshly baked, and there was a sprinkle of icing sugar on the top. This was our favourite dessert indeed.
Overall, the food at Stella Seaside Lounge is decent, with certain hits and misses. This place is located along East Coast Park, so it appeals to families with kids or dogs. There is a large space for them to run around. Unfortunately, the pool was not open and the kids could not take a dip. Due to the ongoing construction, it also blocked off the view of the sea. There were a lot of empty tables on a Sunday lunch, so it is possible to do walk-ins too. There was a minimum spending in order to secure the table for 12 pax, but in the end we managed to hit the target, even though the staff on the phone said that they would waive off the minimum spending. This place is also slightly inconvenient, so only those with cars or taking private hire transport would be able to come here.
