Recently, I had a chance to do a staycation at Capitol Kempinski, hence we managed to check out the breakfast items at 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, complete with a marvellous dining hall experience.
Based on the breakfast menu above, there is a good spread of the typical breakfast items, as well as an extensive Asian breakfast items, as well as breakfast beverages. There were six different kinds of fruit juice available, all of which are freshly squeezed and not bought from your typical supermarket tetra pak. I loved the carrot juice and green apple juice which had a tinge of sourness.
The interior of the restaurant has comfy sofa seats and round tables, while another section is home to the bar. Of course during breakfast time, this section was not open but the staggering amount of alcohol bottles on display definitely made me take a closer look.
A typical breakfast item is the Breakfast Plate, which includes either pork or chicken sausage, roasted bacon, sauteed mushroom, broiled tomato, baked beans and fried egg. The portion is enough to feed one hungry person or you could ask for second helpings. I enjoyed the consistency of the scrambled egg and also the crispy bacon.
Next, another favourite dish and worth ordering is the Nasi lemak under the Asian breakfast menu. The coconut rice was so good that my niece finished eating my rice (leaving me with the ingredients only) and I had to order another serving of this. The Nasi Lemak has a deep fried chicken winglet, fried egg, ikan bilis peanuts, otak and sambal chilli. The sambal chilli and rice alone is good enough to polish off this plate.
The kids craved for something sweet so I ordered waffles for them, which comes with berries and maple syrup. The waffles were freshly made and smelt good, with the drizzle of maple syrup to fill up the squares of the waffles. On hindsight, we should also ordered pancakes to try it out.
The French toast is a special order not on the menu, but the staff told me it was possible. I liked the toast coated with egg, but not so much the cream that was on top.
Over here, I had smoked salmon, which is a staple for me at brunch because the salmon pieces make for a good accompaniment with the toast.
The Roti Prata, served with chicken curry was also delicious. The piece of prata was cut into 4 smaller pieces and served with the curry by the side. I do not like shops that actually pour the curry over your prata pieces, making it soggy. Instead I prefer to cut the prata and dip it into the curry. This dish was simple but the curry was the bomb, packed with spices and flavours.
Lastly the Prawn Noodle Soup which is made of yellow noodle, pork ribs and prawns. I didn’t expect this dish to come with chilli, so unfortunately my nephew could not try it out. They should have put the chilli by the side as an optional condiment. I liked the tasty pork ribs that came without the bone and even after marinating for hours, it has preserved the taste. I am usually not a fan of yellow noodles but I guess the broth of this dish made it more enjoyable.
Overall, breakfast at Kempinski was fantastic. Other than the late timeslot given to us 9.30am as we did not reserve earlier, the one hour at breakfast was sufficient to try most of the items. The kids and I had fun sampling the different food items on the menu. The drinks were also quite interesting, from the usual coffees to teas and the freshly squeezed juices. The children had hot chocolate while I had the latte, which came in distinct layers. Hope to be back again with the wife.
