The warmth and comfort of wood-fired pizzas and traditional pastas over chilled drinks with friends and families became an everyday affair that started with the first Peperoni, located in Greenwood Singapore. Charming, vivacious and full of life, Peperoni Greenwood brings together food lovers from all walks of life. Including many well known and young artists whose work adorn its walls with their expressions of love and creativity. Peperoni Greenwood inspired its owners, the highly acclaimed Les Amis group, to spread the love and energy of Peperoni with the opening of new outlets across Singapore. We have eaten at Pepperoni several times and also ordered it for home delivery during circuit breaker. Due to the proximity to our house, we often go to the Pepperoni outlet at Frankel.
Frankel is situated in the quaint suburb of eastern Singapore. Adorned with the signature red, green and white colours, the décor of Frankel exudes a feel of Italian zest and freshness. The specially imported wood-fired ovens serve some of the best thin-crusted pizzas in town and in the area.
For starters, do go for the Wild Mushroom soup ($12), served with two slices of toasted garlic bread.
Antipasto is the appetisers. We ordered Calamari Fritti (deep-fried calamari $14). There is something about the batter that my wife loves, because it is crunchy, not so oily and the calamari is not overcooked. We also love the lemon mayo and arrabbiata sauce that is served with this antipasto.
For the pasta dishes, we have tried a few of their pasta options. Usually, linguine is our favourite kind of pasta here. In this Vongole linguine dish ($27), it is served with a generous portion of clams, cooked in white wine sauce. We like the broth and will usually drink spoonfuls of it while slurping up the al dente pasta. Other pasta dishes that we have tried include Aglio Olio (pretty standard), Amatriciana for its sauteed bacon, Nero di Seppia (squid and squid ink sauce) and Pesce (seafood pasta).
Lastly, the pizzas are always best eaten when fresh out of the wood-fired ovens. The cust is thin and crispy, while the ingredients on the top are spread out in a pleasing manner. Pizzas comes in medium, large and XXL size (9″, 12″ and 21″ respectively), depending on your appetite. We usually order the large Prosciutto di Parma pizza ($28), which has a heaped topping of thinly sliced parma ham, bitter rocket leaves and shredded parmesan. Hawaiian pizza is also quite popular, a local version of pizza that cannot be found in Italy. It comes with pineapple, ham and bell pepper.
Pepperoni has very good business, so you would need to make a reservation in advance as places in the petit restaurant at Frankel Avenue get filled up quickly.
