Welcome to Central Vietnam, where you’ll find the stunning coastal city of Danang and the enchanting ancient town of Hoi An. With their beautiful beaches, rich history, vibrant culture, and delicious food, these two destinations make for an unforgettable getaway. Here’s your ultimate 3-day, 2-night itinerary to help you make the most of your trip to Danang and Hoi An.

Danang, the fourth largest city in Vietnam, is a significant hub of urbanization and socio-economic development, following Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Hai Phong. Situated on the coast of the Biển Đông (Eastern Sea) at the mouth of the Han River, Danang holds strategic significance as a port city in Central Vietnam.

Day 1: Discover Danang

Morning: Arrival and Beach Time

Start your adventure by arriving in Danang, a city known for its beautiful coastline. Check into your hotel and freshen up before heading straight to My Khe Beach, one of Vietnam’s most famous beaches. Relax on the soft, white sands, take a dip in the clear blue waters, or rent a sun lounger and enjoy a refreshing coconut drink while soaking up the sun.

Lunch: Local Seafood Feast

After a morning of beach bliss, head over to a local seafood restaurant like Be Man or Nam Danh for a delicious lunch. Don’t miss out on trying fresh grilled prawns, squid, and the famous Danang-style fish cakes. There are many seafood restaurants along the beach for you to choose from.
For those feeling thirsty, do check out the Craft beer place – East West Brewing (add: 1A Vo Nguyen Giap, Phuoc My, Son Tra) with delicious food and refreshing craft beer with a beautiful view of the sea.

Afternoon: Marble Mountains and Dragon Bridge

Post-lunch, we will make our way to a silk factory to learn more about how silk is being produced in Vietnam and also a chance to buy some clothing. Apparently this silk factory supplies its fabric to some branded companies like Chanel and Burberry.

Then, make your way to the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five marble and limestone hills named after the five elements. Explore the caves, pagodas, and enjoy the panoramic views of the city and coastline from the top. You can take the elevator or, for a more adventurous route, climb the steps up to the summit.

As the afternoon turns into evening, head towards the Dragon Bridge, the most iconic landmark in Danang. Arrive just before sunset to catch some great photos, and don’t miss the fire and water show that takes place on weekends at 9 PM.

Dinner: Han Market and Street Food Tour

Wrap up your day with a visit to the Han Market to experience local life and shopping. Then, dive into a street food tour where you can sample Danang’s famous dishes like Banh Xeo (crispy pancakes), Mi Quang (turmeric noodles), and Banh Mi (Vietnamese baguette).

Enjoy the sunset from the comfort of your hotel.

Day 2: Journey to Hoi An

Morning: Transfer to Hoi An and Ancient Town Exploration

On your second day, take a short 45-minute drive to Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved ancient town. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and rent a bicycle to explore the charming streets. The former port city’s melting-pot history is reflected in its architecture, a mix of eras and styles from wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese tube houses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge with its pagoda.

Wander through the lantern-filled alleys, visit historical sites like the Japanese Covered Bridge, Tan Ky Old House, and the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation.

Lunch: Riverside Dining

Choose one of the many riverside restaurants like Morning Glory or Cargo Club for lunch. Enjoy traditional Hoi An dishes such as Cao Lau (noodles with pork and greens) or White Rose Dumplings.

Afternoon: Lantern-Making Workshop and Shopping

In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the local culture with a lantern-making workshop. Create your own colorful lantern to take home as a souvenir. Afterward, spend some time exploring the local shops and boutiques, where you can find handmade clothes, jewelry, and other crafts.

Evening: Magical Lantern Boat Ride and Dinner

As the sun sets, experience the magical ambiance of Hoi An by taking a lantern boat ride along the Thu Bon River. The soft glow of the lanterns reflecting on the water is truly mesmerizing. For dinner, head to a local restaurant like Miss Ly or Nu Eatery for a delightful Vietnamese meal.

Day 3: Relaxation and Departure

Morning: My Son Sanctuary or Cooking Class

For your final day, choose between two options. If you’re a history enthusiast, take a morning trip to My Son Sanctuary, an ancient Hindu temple complex located about an hour from Hoi An. Explore the ruins, learn about the Champa civilization, and take in the lush jungle surroundings.

Alternatively, if you’re a foodie, sign up for a cooking class where you can learn to prepare some traditional Vietnamese dishes. Many classes start with a market tour, giving you a chance to learn about local ingredients.

Lunch: cafe or local food

For lunch, check out the rooftop restaurant of Wyndham Golden Bay Danang, or you can arrange a relaxing one hour Vietnamese massage to sooth your aching muscles.

We visited Golden Lotus Oriental Organic Spa (add: 76 Hung Vuong, Hai Chau 1) for our massage, its service is impeccable and there is also some drinks and snacks served.

Afternoon: Return to Danang and Departure

After lunch, it’s time to make your way back to Danang. Depending on your flight time, you might have a few hours to squeeze in a last-minute visit to the Danang Museum of Cham Sculpture or some shopping at Vincom Plaza before heading to the airport.
