Tips for Budapest

Goulash soup of course!
Újházi chicken soupfor example is a rich soup packed with all kinds of vegetables, small slices of chicken and noodles.
kürtőskalács(chimney cake) fills the air of every Christmas fair – it’s a favourite among the locals
somlói galuska (sponge cake spilled with rich chocolate sauce and topped with light whipped cream)
Dobos cake is a sponge cake layered with soft chocolate butter cream topped with a thin slice of caramel cracking in your mouth

The local bus line 200E from the airport to the end station of metro M3 ‘Kőbánya-Kispest’. Single bus tickets are available in airport terminals for HUF 350 at the newspaper vendors, or can be purchased from the driver for HUF 450. Note that for transferring there to the metro, another 350 HUF-ticket is required.

Free Budapest Walking Tour Meeting point: Vörösmarty square (tér). Starts daily at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM Tour leaves from the Vörösmarty square (tér). Meeting point is at the lion fountain. (last stop of M1 yellow line) Walk lasts 2.5 hours and covers about two and a half miles (i.e.about 3.5 kilometers if you think metrically). It is an easy walk with the exception of the 8 minutes long uphill walk to the Castle District. Tour goes at a gentle pace.


See:
-the 7 bridges along the river Danube, including the famous Chain bridge. Both day and night scene are equally impressive
– the Hungarian parliament, if you have student visa it’s free to enter
– Budapest castle 

– Heroes monument square
– visit one of the thermal baths, it’s a wonderful experience

day trip: take a train to Lake Balaton, largest lake in Central Europe, pretty scenery.

  1. Thanks for nice trip review. Now i am interested in visiting Budapest and already bought tickets. I will be there in June. In December i was in Prague and it should be something similar, amazing city. What's the best way to transfer from airport to the hotel?
