Paris je t’aime

Paris is always the favourite city in my life. It is so romantic and a bustling metropolitan city which did not give in to mounting international peer pressure, it still remains its French essence. There are some things in this city that never change, from the dog poo to the haute couture fashion of Parisians. And everyday we would inevitably pass by the Eiffel Tower, so we’ve seen it during different timings and it never fails to dazzle.

On the first day that I arrived in paris, a 3h tgv ride from Grenoble, I met my sg friends Val, Joyce and Cathrin for lunch at a posh restaurant, one of the top 10 restaurants in paris for poulet roti (roast chicken). It’s name is atelier maitre Albert and it is under the guy savoy group which also has a restaurant in sg. The poulet roti was indeed amazing, it was succulent and juicy, and goes well with the mashed potato that tasted so natural like they were just plucked from the ground. Dessert was awesome as well, although each person could only choose one dessert, the chef kindly gave us 2 classics to try – a slice of grapefruit drizzled with tea sauce and a slice of chocolate hazelnut cake. It was so good that we nearly licked the plate clean.

After lunch, we walked to notre dame cathedral which had a long queue of tourists waiting to go in. I met my French friend, Camille, at the church of st germain des pres. Although she would be away for the weekend attending a wedding, she kindly let me stay at her place which she was sharing with 3 others. She had all her stuff ready to go straight to the train station after class, so we spent about 2h walking around the neighbourhood, seeing the jardin de Luxembourg, some churches and parks. We bidded farewell and I went back to find Val at the George Pompidou centre. It is a museum with an interesting architecture, it seems like the water pipes are installed on the exterior of the building. There were some art pieces which we really could not understand, or how it can even be considered art. We caught the sunset from the top floor Pompidou centre which offered spectacular views of paris from above and we could also see the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
At night, I went to find Krystal for some drinks at a bar, she lives in an appartment overlooking the Seine which is very pretty. I really love the vibrant nightlife and artsy culture in paris.
